Faria Renewables, an independent power producer and EPC contractor, has commissioned the Galani standalone battery energy storage project in Elassona, Greece. The facility has a power rating of 49.9MW and an energy capacity of 134.16MWh and uses Huawei liquid-cooled battery energy storage systems.

The project secured financing through Greece’s second energy storage auction. Greece’s prime minister and executives from Huawei Digital Power were among those attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Commissioning marks the project’s transition from auction-backed development into operation. For developers and equipment suppliers following this procurement route, Galani provides a concrete example of an auction-supported storage project reaching the operational stage. Its completion alone, however, does not establish the likely delivery pace or commercial performance of other projects.

The distinction between the facility’s two capacity figures also matters: 49.9MW describes its power rating, while 134.16MWh describes its energy storage capacity. These figures help define the scale of the installation, but they do not establish how it will be dispatched or what revenues it will earn.

With the facility commissioned, subsequent operating disclosures would help assess how the installed system performs in practice. Availability, usable energy capacity and maintenance requirements would be particularly relevant to evaluating the Huawei liquid-cooled installation. Any broader conclusions about the project’s commercial value will depend on its operating results and revenue arrangements.
